Wale Reveals J. Cole’s Advice for Beating Writer’s Block: ‘It Worked a Lil’

Wale recently opened up about how J. Cole once helped him push through writer’s block. He shared that the North Carolina rapper’s meditation technique worked well enough that they ended up creating a fan-favorite collab right after.

On Monday (April 14), Wale jumped on the platform formerly known as Twitter to talk about writer’s block.

“Music friends .. how do yall cure writers block ….over the years I’ve had different methods . Curious what yall do,” he posted. He made sure to add: “I don’t have the block right now FYI. I was just curious.”

Wale followed up by sharing a memory about J. Cole.

“I done talked to Cole bout the block a rack of times,” he shared. “One time [he] try teach me how to meditate.. it worked a lil .. we made ‘my boy ‘ right after.”

“My Boy (Freestyle)” shows up on Wale’s 2018 EP Free Lunch. Cole both raps on the track and produced the beat.

Wale’s story got fans reminiscing about when they first heard “My Boy,” with many expressing hope that the two might eventually drop a joint project together.

“A Wale & Cole collab album would be phenomenal,” one fan commented.

“I’m still hoping we can get a collab project from you two. Y’all have yet to miss with your collabs,” another added, giving props to their favorite Cole/Wale tracks, 2021’s “Poke It Out” and an early career collaboration, 2009’s “Beautiful Bliss.”
