Lil Wayne Says He Had No Idea “Not Like Us” Was Kendrick Lamar’s Drake Diss

Lil Wayne has spoken about his position in the Kendrick Lamar and Drake feud and explained that viral video where he was seen rapping what seemed to be from “Not Like Us.”

In a fresh cover interview with Andre Gee for Rolling Stone, Wayne emphasized that everything is “fine” between him and Kendrick following the mention on “Wacced Out Murals,” which led to Wayne tweeting, “Let this giant sleep.” When asked about this tweet, Wayne – who also shared his frustration about not being selected to perform at this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show – appeared confused about what he had meant.

“I sound like I’m talking about the media, because I said ‘they,'” he explained. Wayne didn’t get involved in Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s beef, and wasn’t even following the drama, despite that video circulating of him rapping the chorus to “Not Like Us.”

“I went onstage and I was singing this song, and they thought I was dissing,” he explained, making it clear he had no idea it was a track aimed at his longtime collaborator and friend Drake. “I ain’t want my dude to be mad at me. I didn’t even know it was Kendrick!” He added, “If it don’t happen on [ESPN] or FS1, I wouldn’t know that happened.”

In the video, Wayne seemed to reference the song’s chorus by rapping, “They don’t like us.” At that time, a source claimed Wayne performed those lyrics to show he was backing Drake.

In another part of the interview, Wayne was shocked when the interviewer mentioned Jay-Z and Kanye West’s joint album Watch the Throne. “They did an album?” he asked. He didn’t recognize “Otis” when they played it for him, but he did know “N***as in Paris” and “No Church in the Wild.”

He also shared that when Tyler, the Creator told him he was going to be on “Sticky” with Sexyy Red, his collaborator already knew Wayne wouldn’t recognize her. “[Tyler] was like, ‘I know you don’t know who that is,'” he remembered. “I was like, ‘I damn sure don’t. Red who? Sexyy what?'” Even though he couldn’t place her at the time, he thought her verse on the track was “dope.”
