Megan Thee Stallion’s legal team has won court approval for sanctions against Tory Lanez after he reportedly cut a deposition short by being “disruptive” and “inflammatory” during the session. In recent court filings, Megan’s attorneys essentially argued that Lanez should be found in contempt for his alleged conduct.
On Wednesday, independent SoCal reporter Meghann Cuniff was among those covering the initial court documents, which relate to a defamation case involving a social media personality who Megan’s lawyers claim was acting “at the behest and command of” Lanez. According to the filings, attempts to depose Lanez ultimately proved to be “a waste of time.” While being recorded, Lanez allegedly “feigned ignorance” about the meanings of basic words, among other disruptive behaviors.
“[Lanez] refused to treat his deposition with any seriousness,” Megan’s attorneys argue in the documents. “In the 44 minutes on the record, [Lanez] feigned ignorance regarding the definition of basic words, such as ‘discuss’ and ‘approve,’ harassed [Megan’s] counsel about her appearance; interrupted questioning to discuss his answers with his and [defendant Milagro Cooper’s] counsel; and pretended that the video equipment was not working despite prison staff confirming it was functioning properly.”
By Thursday, the judge had agreed with the argument made by Megan’s legal team.
In January, Megan was given a five-year restraining order against Lanez. According to earlier reports, this order came about because of Lanez’s alleged harassment from behind bars. Back in 2022, Lanez was found guilty in the Megan Thee Stallion shooting case and later got a ten-year prison sentence.
In a conversation with Complex last October, Megan’s attorney Alex Spiro pointed to “nonsense bloggers” as being central to what he described as a broader “misinformation” campaign orchestrated by Lanez.
“Misinformation can be everywhere but anybody reasonable and conscientious sees this nonsense for what it is,” Spiro told Complex at that time. “Given the fact that they insist on continuing, we’re going to take legal action.”
Complex has contacted Megan’s legal team for more comments on the latest filing. This story might be updated later.
