Lil Wayne seemingly had no idea that Ye and Jay-Z created their joint album, Watch the Throne.
In Wayne’s recent interview for his Rolling Stone cover feature, the topic of Watch the Throne came up in conversation, causing him to ask, “What’s that?”
When writer Andre Gee explained it was Ye and Hov’s collaborative project, Wayne replied, “They did an album?”
Looks like Wayne’s cluelessness doesn’t add up; he directly fired shots at Jay on his September 2011 track “It’s Good.”
“Talkin ’bout baby money? I got your baby money / Kidnap your bitch, get that ‘how-much-you-love-your-lady’ money,” Weezy raps.
The diss was a comeback to Jay’s Watch the Throne song “H.A.M.,” which dropped in August 2011. “I’m like, ‘Really, half a billi, n***a, really?’ You got baby money / Keep it real with n***as, n***as ain’t got my lady money,” Jigga raps.
Jay appeared to be taking shots at Birdman, whose nickname is Baby. Back in 2009, Birdman had responded to MTV naming Jay the “Hottest MC,” according to Genius.
“I don’t think [Jay-Z] is the number one MC in no kind of way. Wayne’s the best. He do the most and he make the most money. I don’t think no n***a in the business make more money than us. How can you be the best if you don’t make the most money? And you don’t do the most? Lyrically, come on man, be for real, can’t nobody fuck with Wayne… If you number one and you ain’t getting no money it don’t mean nothing.
But as Jay pointed out, his net worth in 2011 was $500 million, seemingly bigger than both Wayne and Birdman’s at that time.
Fans on X weren’t buying Wayne’s story either.
