Trace Cyrus has joined the critics taking aim at Katy Perry after her short venture into space.
The musician posted on his TikTok account Saturday (April 19) to share his frustrations with the “Roar” hitmaker:
“I first knew Katy Perry and her team were lame as fuck when her career when her career was first dying and they were like, ‘Hm, what can we do? Well, what worked for Miley [Cyrus]? She cut her hair off and broke the internet and everyone freaked out and she bleached it blonde. We should do that with you, Katy!'”
He then claims the singer’s team tried to copy Miley’s hairstyle “exactly the same.” The Hannah Montana star unveiled a blonde pixie cut in 2012, while Perry adopted a similar style in 2017.
Cyrus continues by suggesting the imitation goes beyond just looks, mentioning Miley’s 2013 track with Mike WiLL Made-It, Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J, “23” (which he calls “J’s on My Feet”). He alleges that Perry’s 2017 collaboration with Migos, “Bon Appétit,” followed Miley’s path of expanding her musical range.
“You’re going to do exactly what the fuck Miley did and blow up,” Cyrus says, pretending to speak as someone from Perry’s team. “But it didn’t fucking work and then they just tried some EDM song or some shit because EDM’s hot. Didn’t fucking work.”
“Now we’re going to send your ass to space. Didn’t fucking work. It’s not working, it’s backfiring. Stop!”
In another TikTok post, Cyrus reinforced the connection between “23” and “Bon Appétit,” saying, “I was just thinking about ‘J’s on My Feet’ and what rhymes with ‘J’s on My Feet?’ ‘Bon Appétit.'”
On April 14, Perry embarked on Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin’s first all-female flight, NS-31, alongside Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyễn, Gayle King, Kerianne Flynn, and Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sánchez.
Perry appears to be receiving a lot of flack for her participation in the mission, with fast food chain Wendy’s even jokingly asking if we can “send her back” into space.
The joke didn’t seem to land, and they went on to backtrack, saying, “We always bring a little spice to our socials, but Wendy’s has a ton of respect for Katy Perry and her out-of-this-world-talent.”
