Corey Taylor, the man behind Slipknot and Stone Sour and known for telling mgk to “suck every inch of my dick,” recently performed a bit of Kendrick Lamar’s viral hit “TV Off.” The track, from Kendrick’s 2024 album GNX, is currently sitting at No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100.
“I put something together very special,” Taylor told fans at a recent acoustic set during Florida’s Spookala convention. “I tried to change this up because I don’t really do this a lot anymore so I wanted to do something special and get something that was kind of like a singalong. I’d like to know, would you guys like to help me sing a song? Alright, this first one is not by me but if you know it, help me sing along.”
Taylor, as seen in the @tonycadwell13-shared clip above and/or the full performance video below, then kicked off the intro lines of Kendrick’s “TV Off,” going: “All I ever wanted was a black Grand National/Fuck being rational.” He then cut himself off before switching to a different cover, specifically a version of Violent Femmes’ “Add It Up” track.
“No, wait, no. That’s not it,” Taylor joked before jumping into some Femmes. “But that’s a dope fucking track.”
Other covers in Corey’s solo set included tunes originally by Nine Inch Nails, Incubus, Foo Fighters, and Chappell Roan. Check out a recording of the full set above.
Slipknot will hit the road again starting in June with a headline spot at Sweden Rock. The group is also topping the bill for Germany’s Rock Im Park and Rock Am Ring, plus Heavy Weekend in France and Rock for People in the Czech Republic.
For American fans, the band has heavily hinted that its Inkcarceration Festival appearance in July will be its only U.S. show this year. Meanwhile, Kendrick is currently touring stadiums with SZA.
