Young Thug recently sat down for an interview where he fielded questions on various topics, including his upcoming album UY Scuti. When asked about his relationship with Gunna, he gave a vague response.
In a chat with GQ, Thugger was asked about his record label and how he manages artists, which brought up Wunna. The rapper was included in the original YSL RICO indictment but eventually took a plea deal and has since faced accusations of being a ‘rat’ who worked with authorities. The status of his friendship with Thug, who also accepted a plea deal that secured his release, has remained unclear since then.
“You guys did a ton of songs together,” interviewer Zach Baron mentioned about Gunna. “He was very successful on your label. He was arrested about the same time as you. I think a lot of people wonder what that relationship is like now.” Thug responded, “Yeah, I know. Everybody wondering that.”
When asked directly what their relationship is like currently, he laughed and said, “I don’t know.”
Gunna’s 2022 Alford plea has stirred up controversy in hip-hop circles, but he’s consistently stated he didn’t cooperate with authorities and maintained his innocence. “While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way,” Gunna said through a statement released by his lawyer Steve Sadow back in December.
His attorney also told critics to “get over it” and said he was willing to take credit for securing such an impressive deal for his client. The status of his friendship with Thug remains unclear, though in November 2024, Thug seemed to call out his former collaborator in a tweet that read, “Gunna stop acting like we friends on the internet, I don’t know u my guy.”
Lil Baby, on the other hand, has been crystal clear that he won’t be working with Gunna again.
