Monica Lewinsky Responds to Halle Berry’s Comments About Rap Lyrics: ‘Wanna Trade?’

Monica Lewinsky playfully asked Halle Berry if she’d like to swap positions as hip-hop’s favorite lyrical reference.

On Friday (April 25), the Oscar-winning actress responded to a trending tweet about how frequently she gets mentioned in rap songs.

“And I appreciate each rap song reference. what are you guys’ favorite?” Berry wrote in her quote tweet.

Lewinsky jumped into the conversation on Saturday with a witty reply: “wanna trade?!?”

Obviously, the 51-year-old activist is referring to her own history of being mentioned in pop culture following her highly publicized affair with President Bill Clinton in the ’90s.

During a 2015 TED Talk, Lewinsky estimated that around 40 rap songs referenced the incident. However, a report from the Cut that same year found approximately 128 songs (not counting most remixes) that mentioned her.

Some of the more notable tracks that give Lewinsky a shout-out include Beyoncé’s “Partition,” Eminem’s “Rap God,” and Nicki Minaj’s “Itty Bitty Piggy.”

On the flip side, Berry has enjoyed much more flattering mentions in tracks like Kanye West’s “New Workout Plan,” J. Cole’s “Higher” and Kendrick Lamar’s “Money Trees.”

“I think of these references like my children, in a way,” Berry told Sean Evans around the seven-minute mark of her 2019 Hot Ones episode. “There’s no way I could pick one. I love all these artists. I’m always flattered when any one of them include me, and that they still remember me, or even know who I am. So, to pick one would be like picking my daughter over my son. I love them all.”
