DJ Akademiks has sparked outrage across social media with his controversial top pick when ranking the tracks from Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s explosive 2024 rap beef showdown.
Ak hit up X on Saturday (May 3) to share his thoughts on the songs, kicking things off by declaring that the second verse of Drake’s “Family Matters” was “the hardest shit in the battle.”
That got people buzzing, so Akademiks doubled down with another hot take.
“In hindsight, ‘Meet the Grahams’ was the WORST song by a mile in the battle,” he fired off in a separate post.
Akademiks then dropped his complete official ranking of the songs from the beef, with Drake’s “Family Matters” claiming the top spot and “Meet the Grahams” landing at the bottom.
“Songs are ranked off quality, bars, not impact,” he clarified, seemingly explaining why “Not Like Us,” despite its massive global success, wasn’t sitting at number one.
Akademiks’ post triggered more than a thousand comments from people arguing over his rankings.
“Push ups was better than Not like us and Euphoria,” one user commented. Another jumped in with a completely different opinion: “Having pushups over 6:16 in LA is wild.”
Other fans called out what they saw as Akademiks’ obvious bias toward Drake in his rankings. Throughout last year’s beef, Akademiks regularly mentioned his “association” with Drizzy, so his choice to put “Family Matters” at the top didn’t shock many people.
One X user’s viral post quoted Akademiks’ rankings alongside a video of the media personality watching Lamar perform “Euphoria” at a recent show. While initially seeming uninterested and slightly irritated that Lamar was performing the diss track, Akademiks couldn’t stop himself from breaking into a huge smile as the beat dropped — even starting to rap along to the diss song.
Akademiks hasn’t posted about Drake and Lamar’s beef since his ranking, but it’s clear that the internet won’t drop it anytime soon. Check out some of the best reactions to Akademiks’ post below.
