After several movie appearances, ASAP Rocky is eyeing a role in a legendary franchise: James Bond.
The rapper-turned-actor, who’s set to appear in Spike Lee’s thriller Highest 2 Lowest, shared his ambitions to play the fictional spy in a fresh Variety interview. Past Bond actors include Daniel Craig, Pierce Brosnan and the late Sean Connery, which would make Rocky the first Black 007 if selected.
In the Variety chat, Rocky talked about the action scenes in Highest 2 Lowest, saying he was on his “Black Tom Cruise shit.”
When questioned about starring in an action movie, Rocky didn’t hold back. “I think I need to be the new Black James Bond. Like, why not?” he said. “If we hit the gym, I’ma be aight. Right now I’m in dad mode; you’re gonna have to give me a couple months.”
After Highest, Rocky will next headline dramedy If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. He’s also preparing to drop his much-anticipated fourth album, Don’t Be Dumb.
Elsewhere in the chat, Pretty Flacko remembered his “trash” audition for Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story and gave credit to Donald Glover for crushing the role.
“My man Childish Gambino [Donald Glover] was a way better Lando than I would’ve provided at that time. And I think he looked a little more like [Billy Dee Williams] than me,” Rocky confessed.
