Amber Rose has fired back at critics after facing backlash for calling herself an “African Queen.”
In a recent Instagram post with Baddies star Natalie Nunn, Rose used the caption “African Queens.” The post drew criticism since both women are mixed race, with Rose having Cape Verdean, Irish and Italian heritage. However, it appears Rose and Nunn, along with Zeus Network CEO Lemuel Plummer, were actually in Nairobi, Kenya, doing charity work with underprivileged children at the time.
In an Instagram post shared by The Shade Room on Friday (May 9), Rose had returned from Kenya and was standing firmly by her “African Queens” comment.
“Kiss my ass,” Rose told the haters. “We’re all African queens. We all come from Africa. All the homosapiens in the world come from Africa.”
Rose declared it was “one hundred percent” fine for white people to also call themselves “African Queens” and insisted that “people need to get out of their feelings.”
The model and media personality denied being insensitive, claiming African people “love” her. “I’ve been over there plenty of times. They don’t talk about race like they do over here in America,” she added.
“If you’re a good person over there, that’s all they care about. I mean, to the places that I’ve been—I can’t speak for every country in Africa. But everywhere I’ve been, as soon as you get off the airplane, they say, ‘Welcome home.'”
But Rose’s caption particularly annoyed folks who sided with Joseline Hernandez’s 2022 claim on College Hill: Celebrity Edition that Rose wanted to be white.
During that Season 2 episode of the BET reality show, the two personalities clashed over racial identity. “I identify myself and let you know who that is. Your problem is that you really wanna be a white girl,” Hernandez told Rose in a heated exchange.
BET didn’t broadcast the complete footage of the incident, which quickly turned physical, but it eventually leaked online anyway.
