Miley Cyrus is brushing off the drama.
The singer addressed reports from earlier this week suggesting family tensions had led to her mother, Tish Cyrus-Purcell, unfollowing her on Instagram.
The “Wrecking Ball” hitmaker posted an Instagram story aimed at shutting down the gossip, confirming the unfollow happened but insisting it was just a mistake.
“I rarely comment on rumors, but my mama and I are too tight for anything to ever come between us,” the “Flowers” singer wrote. “Like a lot of moms, she doesn’t know how to work her phone and somehow unfollowed me — simple, coincidental, and uninteresting.”

Cyrus-Purcell told a similar story, writing in an Instagram comment on Wednesday (May 7) that she had “no idea” how the unfollow happened.
Many fans had jumped to conclusions that Cyrus-Purcell’s unfollow was connected to Miley visiting her father, singer Billy Ray Cyrus, around that same time.
The three-time Grammy winner’s parents split up in 2022. Both have found new love since then: Billy divorced singer Firerose in 2024 after just a year of marriage and is now dating actress Elizabeth Hurley. Tish tied the knot with actor Dominic Purcell in 2023, though he previously had a relationship with her youngest daughter, Noah.
Miley acknowledged in her IG story that there were “challenges” with her father — hinting at reports their relationship became rocky around the time he and Cyrus-Purcell divorced. But she emphasized things are much better now.
“Now, in my thirties, family is my priority above all else,” she wrote. “I’m at peace knowing bridges have been built and time has done a lot of healing.”
Miley wrapped up expressing gratitude that her family still has “good health and love.”
