The artist formerly known as Kanye West has not accused Kim Kardashian—his wife from 2014 to 2022—of violating their custody agreement, Complex has confirmed. TMZ initially reported the letter was genuine but later admitted the cease and desist was fake. According to TMZ, the letter had claimed Kim left “their 11-year-old daughter unattended in a vehicle during portions” of the Met Gala.
In the letter TMZ originally reported—which they’ve since labeled a “hoax”—lawyers for Ye and his current wife Bianca Censori were supposedly demanding Kim stop actions allegedly violating Ye’s parental rights, exploiting his children, and breaking their joint custody agreement. The debunked letter also falsely claimed North was subjected to “significant media attention” at this week’s Met Gala in New York.
Now, TMZ reports that a source with direct knowledge says Kim’s team is treating the supposed cease and desist as nothing but a publicity stunt, noting her attorney, Laura Wasser, hasn’t received anything. When contacted by Complex, Kanye’s team denied any involvement with the letter.
A YZY spokesperson also told Complex that Ye never hired the law firm mentioned in the hoax.
Other bogus claims in the fake letter included denial of custodial access (repeating the disputed claim that Ye hasn’t seen his son, Saint, in 2025) and exploitation without consent.
The fabricated demands included: stop “publishing or authorizing” photos and videos of Ye and Kim’s children on social media, stop involving the children in public events without Ye’s consent, “regular and unimpeded access” for Ye to the children, and removal of “all existing social media content” of the children that Ye didn’t approve.
Complex has reached out to Kardashian’s representatives. This story may be updated.
News of these false custody allegations comes as Ye and Bianca are reportedly preparing legal action against celebrity dentist Dr. Thomas P. Connelly.
