Lizzo hinted that her friendless state is a direct result of how “weird” things got after she rose to fame. The singer got candid about her (lack of) friendships during a chat with Ziwe (around the 4:44 mark) where she reflected on people who were once close to her.
“I used to have so many friends, but when you get famous, it gets really weird,” Lizzo confessed. “Everyone makes it weird for famous people.”
“I’m still a normal person,” she added. “You’re still you. Everything around you changes. It’s heartbreaking.”
Lizzo then offered her followers some straight talk about fame — basically, don’t chase it.
“Don’t be famous,” she warned viewers. “I know you guys want to to be, and I know you want to go online, go viral, get your money, and be rich.”
“Rich and famous are not the same thing,” Lizzo pointed out. “If you’re an artist, do your art, but don’t just be famous. You can’t leave. It never ends.”
Back in April, Lizzo shared some of the changes she’s made to her lifestyle during her ongoing weight loss journey. In a TikTok Live, the singer revealed she’s cut back on “sugary stuff” in the morning, swapping them for breakfast options that are “super savory.”
“I do something sweet. It’s gotta be with some sort of, like, carb. I’ll have like almond butter and toast. So, everybody’s body is different. Find out what works for you,” Lizzo shared.
Lizzo also cautioned people against obsessing over calories.
“We rebel against counting calories because it is a gateway to eating disorders,” she explained. “I don’t think it’s healthy to constantly be counting calories and to constantly have that number in your head. I don’t think it’s healthy to constantly get on the scale and always be checking your weight, and to be obsessed with the numbers.”
