Chris Brown Slapped With Grievous Bodily Harm Charge Following England Arrest

Chris Brown, after reports of his arrest in England on Thursday related to a 2023 nightclub incident, has now officially been charged.

In an official statement, the Metropolitan Police Service announced that Brown faces charges of grievous bodily harm with intent. This charge, according to police, stems from the 2023 nightclub altercation, where Brown allegedly hit a man multiple times with a tequila bottle at the Tape London club.

“A man has been charged following an investigation by detectives in the Metropolitan Police Service,” police stated in their latest release. “Chris Brown, 36 (05.05.89), who is a US National, was charged on Thursday, 15 May with grievous bodily harm with intent. He remains in custody and will appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court at 10:00hrs on Friday, 16 May. The charge relates to an assault, which reportedly took place at a venue in Hanover Square in London, on Sunday, 19 February 2023.”

As we reported earlier, news first broke about an arrest at Manchester’s Lowry Hotel on Thursday. At that time, when contacted by Complex, a Metropolitan Police Service spokesperson wouldn’t directly confirm Brown was the person arrested, citing department policy. Instead, they only stated that “a 36-year-old man” had been arrested at a Manchester hotel “on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.”

In light of the formal charge, Complex has again reached out to Chris Brown’s team for comment. This story might be updated.

As of now, neither Brown nor his representatives appear to have made any public statements through social media or other channels. Brown’s Breezy Bowl XX stadium tour, marking his 20-year career milestone, is scheduled to begin next month. It’s not yet clear if this week’s arrest will disrupt those plans.
