Lizzo and her man Myke Wright made their relationship official in 2022, but they’d actually known each other for years before taking things romantic.
In a fresh episode of Therapuss with Jake Shane, the Grammy-winning star shared more details about their relationship journey, describing it as the perfect “friends-to-lovers trope.”
Lizzo and Wright go way back almost a decade, first connecting as co-hosts on MTV’s Wonderland in 2016.
“I was the music girl, he was the comedy guy,” she said. “I was just like, ‘He’s my best friend.’ I didn’t have any guy friends like that—well, I did, because you know I’m in the music industry. But I was like ‘Wow, I can really talk to him.'”
“We had this crazy bond for years,” she continued. “I do love that we were friends first, so that means we can talk about anything.”
When the host called Wright her “best friend,” Lizzo totally agreed.
“Literally,” she said. “That is low-key like a fantasy. Right? It’s like a ‘BookTok’ dream to be like, ‘Oh my God, like he was my best friend.'”
The couple went public with their romance in April 2022 after Andy Cohen accidentally spilled the beans on his radio show.
A few months later on the Howard Stern Show, Lizzo admitted that when she first met Wright, she had “wild defenses” that “made it almost impossible for a true, intimate relationship to occur.”
When asked on Therapuss if marriage to Wright might be in her future, Lizzo didn’t hesitate: “There’s nobody else I’m going to be with for the rest of my life.”
