Fresh after giving birth, Hailey Bieber faced rumors that her marriage to Justin Bieber was falling apart.
The Rhode Skin mogul addressed the scrutiny of her relationship in her new Vogue cover feature, released Tuesday (May 20). The pair, who’ve been hitched for about seven years, are parents to 9-month-old son Jack Blues.
In the interview, Hailey revealed she’s learned to embrace herself “so much more” than ever before, building up immunity against the haters.
“There’s an ease that comes with it, a confidence,” the model and entrepreneur shared. “You really start to give less of a fuck about so many things. You’re just like, I don’t have the time, actually. I don’t have the energy.”
While Justin chimed in, noting that because his wife is “in the spotlight,” she “makes being a mom and wife look easy,” Hailey opened up about the struggles of being misunderstood.
“I feel like I’ve fought so hard to try to get people to understand me, or know who I am, or see me for me. And people just don’t want to sometimes,” she admitted.
Hailey noted there’s “nothing you can do about that.” “I’ve been in a position where I’ve tried to tell my side of a story or correct a narrative or tell the truth of a lie and then they go, Well, she’s lying. Imagine how trapping that feels,” she explained.
Among the challenges Hailey faced postpartum were whispers about her and Justin’s marriage crumbling. She described the postpartum period as “the most sensitive time” she’s “ever gone through,” while adjusting to a “new version” of herself was “difficult.”
“And to be doing that all the while going on the internet every day and people being like, They’re getting divorced and They’re this and They’re not happy: It is such a mindfuck,” she confessed. “I cannot even begin to explain it. It’s a crazy life to live.”
The Biebers have weathered endless speculation about their relationship for years, with Hailey even receiving death threats from some fans of Selena Gomez, Justin’s former girlfriend. The two women have been on good terms in recent years, with Selena actually speaking up to defend Hailey in 2023.
