Britney Spears has revealed that she found the rumors about her being intoxicated on a flight this week “incredibly funny.”
On Thursday (May 22), it was reported that the pop star acted in a drunken manner while aboard a private jet traveling to Los Angeles International Airport from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Spears was said to have been accompanied by her security team when she tried to light a cigarette during the flight, and sources alleged that she became “difficult” when flight attendants requested she extinguish the cigarette.
While the singer won’t face any charges related to the incident, Spears was approached by authorities after landing, who advised her against smoking on flights in the future.
Spears responded to the reports in an Instagram reel on Friday (May 24), which featured her playfully striking poses in a fedora while holding a bottle of alcohol.
“Some planes I’ve been on you can’t smoke mostly but this one was different because the drink holders were on outside of seat !!!” she remembered.
Spears mentioned that during the flight, she had her first experience drinking vodka, which she said made her feel “so smart.”
“I was like wow what the heck is in there !!! I felt so clear and smart !!! And said I want a cigarette so bad !!! My friend put it in my mouth and lit [fire emoji] it up for me so I was like OH SO THIS IS A PLANE WHERE YOU CAN SMOKE !!!” she went on.
Spears offered an apology to those she “offended,” but noted that flight attendants typically make sure she’s positioned at the rear of the plane. She also claimed that one attendant attempted to “embarrass” her by alerting authorities.
“Nobody was on the plane for first 20 minutes and she wouldn’t let me get out of my seat I wanted to stand up !!!” she posted. “She acted so weird about making sure I sat down and it was weird !!! I didn’t like the way she put the seatbelt on me and invaded my space !!!”
Spears, who has previously criticized those who are “jealous” of her, has been working to rebuild her reputation since her 13-year conservatorship ended by pushing back against other “fake” stories about her conduct.
