Jamie Foxx has revealed a tale about recording Whitney Houston on tape as she sang for him in private and how Bobby Brown later came looking for it.
During the most recent episode of The Hollywood Reporter‘s Stand-Up Roundtable, Foxx, who was joined by Sarah Silverman, Seth Meyers, Roy Wood Jr., and others, looked back on a memorable evening in 2000 when he was spending time with Brown and their crew.
“One night, me an Bobby Brown, we’re doing our thing, we’re fucked up, and we’re doing ‘Don’t Be Cruel,'” Foxx started his tale.
“So, we’re partying, and I say, ‘I got to use the bathroom,'” Foxx went on. “And while I’m in the bathroom, I hear, ‘Now, Jamie, let me tell you something, I don’t do this for nobody. I usually get a million dollars to sing a song.'”
Foxx described that it was Houston talking to him, so he quickly grabbed a camera and filmed her performing “I Will Always Love You.”
“So now I got the tape,” Foxx said. “I go back to my crib, we’re having a little afterparty, and all of a sudden I hear this (knock, knock, knock) … It’s Bobby Brown.”
“He’s like, ‘I got to take that tape,'” Foxx continued. “I said, ‘Bobby, I don’t have it.'”
“‘Well, I got to take something.’ So, he goes in my closet, and he’s taking clothes. He’s matching outfits and shit,'” Foxx claimed.
Foxx then disclosed that he still possesses the recording that Brown was after — but he’s no longer interested in releasing it. “I have the tape,” Foxx stated. “But it doesn’t mean anything anymore. Why? YouTube.”
During another part of the roundtable discussion, Foxx talked about how it felt when people suggested he was cloned following his stroke. “When they said I was a clone, that made me flip. I’m sitting in the hospital bed, like, ‘These bitch-ass muthafuckas are trying to clone me,'” Foxx remarked.
