Eight individuals have been found guilty in the 2016 hotel robbery of Kim Kardashian during Paris Fashion Week.
On Friday (May 23), a verdict was delivered in the Paris trial of the 10 defendants. Two of them were cleared of charges, but the remaining eight received sentences ranging from three years to eight years in prison. Taking into account time already served, with sentences mostly or completely suspended, none of the defendants in the case will actually go back to prison.
Following the verdict, Kardashian expressed in a statement to People that she was “deeply grateful to the French authorities for pursuing justice in this case.”
“The crime was the most terrifying experience of my life, leaving a lasting impact on me and my family,” she said. “While I’ll never forget what happened, I believe in the power of growth and accountability and pray for healing for all. I remain committed to advocating for justice, and promoting a fair legal system.”
Her legal team, Michael Rhodes, Léonor Hennerick, and Jonathan Mattou, also issued a statement, conveying that Kardashian, “appreciates the Court’s decision and once again thanks the French authorities for treating her with great respect throughout the process.”
“It has been a long journey from that terrible night back in 2016 to her standing courageously in a historic Paris courtroom to confront these criminals,” they continued. “She looks forward to putting this tragic episode behind her, as she continues working to improve the criminal justice system on behalf of victims, the innocent, and the incarcerated seeking to redeem themselves.”
Kardashian’s hotel suite was invaded by five masked men pretending to be police officers in 2016. They escaped with at least $6 million in valuables.
During her court testimony, Kardashian stated that she thought she was “going to die” during the robbery. “I kept telling them that I have babies, and that I needed to go home to my babies,” she recounted.
French authorities announced that they apprehended the robbery suspects in 2017.
