Diddy’s attorneys have once more pursued the mistrial strategy in the Bad Boy Records founder’s federal sex trafficking and racketeering case.
This latest attempt sees Diddy’s legal team publicly challenging alleged “prosecutorial misconduct.” According to real-time court coverage from Shawn Setaro for Complex, Diddy’s lawyers objected to the presentation of communications about how LAPD handled fingerprints supposedly connected to a Kid Cudi break-in. As previously reported, Cudi recently testified in Diddy’s case, claiming that his Porsche was targeted in a firebombing attack.
On Wednesday, an arson investigator testified, which led to Diddy’s legal team (unsuccessfully) seeking a mistrial. According to Setaro, Diddy’s attorney Alexandra Shapiro specifically told the court, “We are going to mov for a mistrial based on the prosecutorial misconduct that went into this.” This came after Diddy’s lawyers had objected to the alleged claim that their client had potential evidence destroyed.
“My point is that it’s becoming clearer this inference is what the government is doing this for… There’s no way to unring this bell,” Shapiro stated during Wednesday’s proceedings.
Wednesday’s focus in the Diddy case centered on testimony from a Los Angeles arson investigator. The investigator had originally been brought in regarding the alleged targeting of Cudi’s vehicle.
This marks another attempt by Diddy’s legal team to secure a mistrial. Last week, Diddy’s attorney Brian Steel sought a mistrial while Cudi was giving his testimony.
