Mo’Nique’s Son Shalon Apologizes to His Mother for ‘Betrayal’: ‘I Have to Take Full Accountability’

Mo’Nique’s son Shalon Jackson has publicly said sorry to his mother for previous remarks he made about her.

In a TikTok video posted on Wednesday (May 28), Jackson delivered a sincere apology to the actress and her husband, Sidney Hicks, by recognizing the damage he caused with a series of harsh videos he shared a year ago.

“Making those videos a year ago was a betrayal against our family, and I have to take full accountability for it,” Jackson stated on TikTok. “Why I made the videos and how I was feeling at the time when I made them is irrelevant. I made them and I shouldn’t have, period.”

“My family did not deserve the backlash that they received from what I said,” he went on. “My mother and Sidney were very justified to address my mental health condition at the time. I just simply didn’t like it. Taking accountability can be hard if I allow it to be. Bottom line, I was wrong and I shouldn’t have said any of what I said. I should have just kept my mouth shut and called my mother.”

Later in the four-minute video, the 35-year-old talked about an emotionally charged but healing family conversation started by his brothers that made him feel like he “spiritually got jumped.”

“But at the end of the ass-whooping, my family did pick me up and give me a hug. The love my mother has for her family and the way that she loves life is a testament to her husband,” he explained.

He also shared his regret that his behavior impacted his children’s bond with their grandmother.

“Now, watching her take pride in making my son’s baby food from scratch, to baking chickpea chocolate chip cookies with my daughter, to being with me the first time my son went underwater in the pool, makes me so happy to have been so wrong before,” Jackson revealed.

“I owe it to my family to make this apology public due to the fact that I made our family business public. Though the road to family redemption is hard, I’m looking forward to it,” he stated near the end of the video.

Based on Vibe, the drama started after Jackson challenged Mo’Nique’s portrayal of their relationship as a “false narrative” during her 2024 Club Shay Shay interview.

“Faith without work is dead, and neither one of us cares to put forth any effort to reconcile with the other,” Jackson declared at the time. “We are separate as she put it because she doesn’t care to be my mother any more than I care to be her son.”

Mo’Nique and Hicks fired back in an Instagram video, pushing back against some of Jackson’s statements while outlining their financial assistance, including essentials for Jackson’s newborn and support with buying a car. A few days after that, Mo’Nique posted private text messages trying to counter Jackson’s allegations.
