A Nashville suspect wanted for the murder of rapper Chris King has been taken into custody.
Adrian Cameron Jr., 20, was arrested in Los Angeles on Tuesday (May 27) in connection with two separate homicides, FOX 17 Nashville reported.
Chris King (born Christopher Cheeks) was fatally shot during a robbery attempt outside a recording studio on Hayes Street in midtown Nashville in April 2024.
King was in an alley with friends at 2:30 a.m. when several individuals approached the group and attempted to rob them. The rapper and another person were hit by gunfire during the incident.
“The [surviving] 29-year-old victim reported the group was hanging out cordially for some time before the three suspects attempted to rob his group of friends,” read a 2024 statement from the Nashville Police Department. “It was then that he heard gunfire and realized he was struck.”
Both victims were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where King succumbed to his injuries.
According to the news outlet, Cameron Jr. was free on bond for the 2021 killing of 50-year-old Josh Evans from Lebanon when Cheeks was murdered and had been monitored with an ankle device, which he allegedly removed soon after the shooting.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, working alongside an FBI and LAPD Task Force, captured Cameron outside a Los Angeles residence. He awaits transfer back to Nashville.
A second suspect, 19-year-old Amir Caroll, was taken into custody in February for his role in the robbery-related homicide.
After Cheeks’ passing, the entertainment world expressed their sorrow and paid tribute through social media posts.
“Love you bro. This one hurts. Please keep his family in your prayers,” Justin Bieber wrote on his Instagram Story at the time. “See you in paradise brother.”
Additional celebrities, including Trippie Redd, Machine Gun Kelly, Keke Palmer, Westside Gunn, and Keke Palmer, also expressed their grief and offered condolences.
