Jamie Foxx has opened up about how he drew strength from his eldest daughter, Corinne Foxx’s unwavering support during his life-threatening medical crisis.
In April 2023, the Academy Award winner, 57, was rushed to the hospital in Atlanta while shooting Back In Action. The emergency was subsequently identified as a brain bleed that triggered a hemorrhagic stroke. Foxx remained unconscious for weeks, later describing his recovery as a “miracle” in his 2024 Netflix special What Had Happened Was.
Before the media broke the story, Corinne, 31, shared news of her father’s hospitalization on Instagram. Reflecting on the experience, Foxx spoke at Netflix’s recent FYSEE LA event about what it meant to have his daughter’s advocacy.
“I said one day I’m going to stop crying. But I got a feeling I’ll never stop crying because you were special,” Foxx told Corinne, who joined him onstage. “I’m glad God gave me an opportunity to get back so I could see what you’re going to do because you’re going to shock the world.”
According to People, Foxx mentioned that Corinne has “always been grounded” and “held me down” during the crisis that left him unconscious for 20 days.
The actor recovered in time to escort his daughter down the aisle last September, when she wed her now-husband, Joe Hooten. Foxx also has a 16-year-old daughter, Anelise Bishop, who performed guitar at her father’s bedside during his hospitalization.
During another part of the conversation, the Any Given Sunday actor described how “earth-shattering” it was to meet the medical staff at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta who aided his recovery. Foxx revealed how a nurse called him “a miracle” for surviving his stroke.
“She said, ‘Because less than 3% of people that come in with what you had leave here. We usually put ’em in a box. But when I saw that it was you, I rolled my sleeves up – That’s Jamie Fox in there.”
