Ray J has pushed back against claims that he was present when Whitney Houston died.
On Friday (June 6), the R&B and reality TV star went on Twitch with his former Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood co-star Moniece Slaughter where he addressed the allegations.
In the years leading up to Houston’s death in 2012, the pair had developed a close friendship following the singer’s divorce from Bobby Brown in 2007. The six-time Grammy winner accidentally drowned in the bathtub of her Beverly Hilton hotel room, caused by heart disease and cocaine use.
In the clip below, Ray J stated he wasn’t in the room when Houston died despite some suggestions that he was. “So it’s like, ‘What are y’all talking about?’ I gotta literally come out and explain what it really was, which is super disrespectful to Whitney. But now it’s getting out of control.”
Ray J explained he’s never talked about the subject “out of respect” for the late superstar and mentioned that he’ll “let a story build” without feeling compelled to defend himself. “But eventually, if shit gets too out of control and narratives are being created … I have to say something, even if you don’t want to. Because it’s like, ‘Yo, this shit’s crazy,” he explained.
His remarks follow Suge Knight’s claims in a recent Art of Dialogue interview that Ray J provided drugs to Houston.
“She just used the term that ‘Brandy’s little brother bringing me drugs and doing drugs with me,'” he alleged. “‘Brandy’s little brother trying to kiss me and do drugs with me.’ Next thing you know, she’s dead.”
Ray J hasn’t yet responded to the comment about Houston, though he did blast Knight for claiming that he and Diddy were romantically linked.
“Ray J and Puffy are lovers bro, really?” Ray J said during a recent Twitch stream. “That’s what Suge is trying to say. Suge disappointed me and let me know that Suge’s a complete cunt. I’ve always had Suge’s back.”
