Adin Ross opened up about his costly struggle with lean.
While streaming with N3on, he confessed to spending “over a million dollars” on the drug.
“But we don’t buy drugs anymore. F*ck drugs,” Ross said firmly. “Lean is horrible though, bro.”
N3on, stunned, asked, “You spent a mil on lean?”
Lean—a mix typically made with codeine linctus, promethazine, paracetamol, and dextromethorphan combined with soft drinks—has long been tied to the music industry, with several artists sharing their own battles with the substance.
Lil Wayne, for instance, has faced multiple hospitalizations due to seizures reportedly linked to his lean use. In September 2017, he suffered several seizures in a Chicago hotel and was found unconscious before being rushed to a local hospital, where he experienced another episode.
Gucci Mane spoke candidly about his struggle in a 2017 interview with Billboard, saying, “Drying out from drinking lean is probably the worst feeling in the world. It’s kind of like food—you’re starving. It’s indescribable. It’s terrible, terrible pain.”
Future also addressed his decision to quit lean in 2019, explaining to Genius’ Rob Markman that he kept it quiet out of concern over fan reactions.
“I didn’t want to tell them because I felt like then they was going to be like, ‘Oh, his music changed because he ain’t drinking lean no more,’” he said. “And people be like ‘Damn, why don’t you even say it?’ But it’s hard when your fans are used to you being a certain type of way.”
