Country singer Conner Smith has been named as the driver of a truck that struck and killed an elderly woman in Nashville, Tennessee, on Sunday. The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department says their initial investigation found that Smith was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that hit 77-year-old Dorothy Dobbins while she was in a marked crosswalk around 7:30 p.m. Dobbins was rushed to a local hospital where she died from her injuries. The investigation found Smith didn’t yield the right of way to Dobbins. “On June 8th, Mr. Smith was involved in a car accident that tragically claimed a life,” Smith’s attorney Worrick G. Robinson said in a statement to Billboard. “His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins’ family during this incredibly difficult time. Mr. Smith continued to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.” Sources tell TMZ that Smith wasn’t under the influence or distracted by his phone. No charges have been brought yet.
