Miley Cyrus is opening up about how her Bangerz era in 2013 affected her family—especially her siblings.
During her appearance on the Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky podcast, the three-time Grammy winner reflected on how her bold image at the time caused tension at home. With five siblings—Brandi (38), Trace (36), Christopher (33), Braison (31), and Noah (25)—Cyrus admitted that her behavior back then left some of them feeling “humiliated.”
She recalled being “hit so hard” by the backlash and admitted she felt “so embarrassed” when one of her brothers and a sister were so upset they “didn’t want to go to school.”
Miley Cyrus is getting candid about how her rise during the Bangerz era impacted her closest relationships—especially with her family.
She recalled a moment with one of her brothers, saying, “I remember my brother at one point he was saying, ‘I don’t judge you, but you could understand how hard it is for me to go to school, and you be my sister.’” Cyrus admitted she was a tough sibling to have while growing up, adding, “So I was like, ‘All right, we’re even.’”
Cyrus also revealed that her personal life took a major hit as her career exploded. She subtly referenced her broken engagement to Liam Hemsworth in 2013, saying, “I lost everything” in her private world. “If I kept dressing or acting a certain way, my relationships fell apart. No one wanted to date me because they didn’t want to be with a woman [whose] sexual expression part was not for them. It was shared with the world.”
Facing her parents during that time wasn’t easy either. Miley said she felt “super embarrassed” just being around her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus.
Back in 2013, fans were stunned as she ditched her Disney image—chopping off her hair, twerking onstage, and dropping music that was anything but family-friendly.
