R. Kelly is pleading for immediate release from prison, claiming his life is in danger and accusing federal authorities of plotting to have him killed.
According to a new emergency motion filed in Chicago on June 10, the disgraced singer’s legal team is urging former President Trump to intervene and help secure his freedom. The motion, reported by Variety, alleges a conspiracy by federal authorities to steal his legal correspondence in an effort to coerce testimony from a former girlfriend.
But the most shocking claim involves a murder-for-hire plot. R. Kelly’s lawyers allege that federal agents tried to recruit a white supremacist inmate—Mikeal Glenn Stine, a terminally ill member of the Aryan Brotherhood—to kill Kelly in exchange for early release. Stine reportedly agreed at first, but then warned Kelly instead, exposing the alleged scheme.
“R. Kelly’s life is now threatened, because of his willingness to fight and to expose the very kind of corruption that President Trump has been fighting and standing up to since the day he took that office,” said Kelly’s attorney Beau Brindley at a press conference.
Brindley also made it clear they plan to bypass the usual clemency process and are seeking a direct presidential pardon. “We are seeking a conversation with the president, because R. Kelly does not have the time, with his life in danger, to go through the normal channels,” he said. “We are seeking talks with the White House. We are seeking talks with everybody who is willing to help us.”
R. Kelly is currently serving a 30-year sentence in New York after being convicted in 2022 on racketeering and sex trafficking charges. He was later sentenced to an additional 20 years in Chicago for producing child pornography and enticing minors for illegal sexual activity.
