Eric Dane is bravely speaking out just two months after receiving his ALS diagnosis.
In a preview clip from his emotional sit-down with Diane Sawyer for Good Morning America, shared Thursday, June 12, the 52-year-old actor opened up about facing the harsh reality of the disease. “I wake up every day and I’m immediately reminded that this is happening,” Dane said, holding back tears.
Despite the gravity of the situation, the Euphoria star showed a spirit of determination: “I don’t think this is the end of my story. I don’t feel like this is the end of me.” The preview ended as Sawyer asked him who he called first after getting the news, prompting Dane to lower his head in a moment filled with emotion.
Dane went public with his ALS diagnosis on April 10, telling People, “I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
Interestingly, just weeks before the announcement, his estranged wife Rebecca Gayheart—who filed for divorce in 2018—withdrew her petition. The couple, who married in 2004, share two daughters: Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13. Despite the family news, Dane has also been seen several times with rumored girlfriend Priya Jain, most recently on May 12.
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a rare and progressive neurodegenerative disorder that gradually strips the body of muscle control, affecting everything from movement and speech to breathing.
Dane’s full interview will air Monday, June 16, on Good Morning America.
