R. Kelly is showing sympathy for Sean “Diddy” Combs as the Bad Boy mogul faces his federal sex trafficking and racketeering trial.
TMZ spoke with Kelly’s attorney, Beau Brindley, who shared the singer’s reaction to Diddy’s situation. “He’s aware of it. He feels sympathy for what Diddy is going through. They were not friends and I don’t mean to suggest that,” Brindley said. “In reality, he sympathizes with anybody that’s being put through this because he knows what has happened to him… If it’s anything like what was done to him, he feels for him.”
R. Kelly’s name was actually brought up during the trial’s fourth week. Diddy’s former assistant, using the pseudonym “Mia,” referenced Kelly in a message to Diddy, thanking him for protecting her. “Just thinking of you today and every day,” she wrote. “Also no lie, last night I had a nightmare I was trapped in an elevator with R. Kelly and I screamed for you and you came to rescue me. So thank you for that too. Sending you love.”
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, June 10, Kelly’s legal team filed an emergency motion requesting help from former President Donald Trump to get him released from federal custody. In the filing, his lawyers accused authorities of pressuring a former girlfriend to testify against him and even claimed a white supremacist gang leader had been recruited to try to kill him in prison.
“R. Kelly’s life is now threatened, because of his willingness to fight and to expose the very kind of corruption that President Trump has been fighting and standing up to since the day he took that office,” Brindley said at a press conference. “We will ask President Trump to help us.”
He added, “We are seeking a conversation with the president, because R. Kelly does not have the time, with his life in danger, to go through the normal channels. We are seeking talks with the White House. We are seeking talks with everybody who is willing to help us.”
