Former Canadian politician Jagmeet Singh found himself in the middle of some rap drama after Drake discovered he attended one of Kendrick Lamar’s shows in Toronto.
The ex-New Democratic Party leader got called out by Drake, who slid into his DMs on Sunday (June 15) and hit him with a blunt “goof” — then shared the screenshot on his Instagram Story for everyone to see. The message also revealed Singh had once thanked Drake for a follow back in 2019.
Trying to smooth things over, Singh responded publicly on his own Story:
“I went for SZA, not Kendrick,” he wrote. “I was born in this city. I love this city. But real talk, I get it. I shouldn’t have gone at all.”
He followed up with some hometown pride, saying, “OVO and Drake have lifted up this city and [Canada]. For me it’ll always be Drake over Kendrick.”
Still, the fallout was real—Drake seemingly unfollowed Singh after the move was seen as a betrayal, though Singh continues to follow the rapper.
Kendrick Lamar’s Grand National Tour left a big impression in Drake’s hometown, with fans chanting for an encore of the hard-hitting diss track “Not Like Us.” Lamar, however, didn’t give in.
On another note, singer SiR playfully addressed his own brush with the feud. During his Toronto show in early June, he claimed his 2024 tour stop in the city was scrapped because of the tension between Drake and his former TDE labelmate Kendrick.
“I kinda got caught in the middle of a beef that I ain’t had shit to do with,” SiR said on stage. “I just want to say right now: I did not cancel my show last year—Drake did.”
He went on to explain, “There were complications… it hit too close to home for some folks. The venue in Toronto, which was ‘partially owned by Drake,’ shut it down. Then we tried to book another venue, and they said, ‘Nah, we’re not touching this. You might end up getting jumped in Toronto.’”
