Eminem’s Stalker Hit with Maximum 30-Year Sentence for Breaking Into Rapper’s Home

The man who repeatedly stalked Eminem and broke into his Michigan home twice over the past five years has now been sentenced.

According to the Detroit Free Press, 32-year-old Matthew David Hughes has been handed a maximum sentence of 30 years — 15 to 30 years for first-degree home invasion and an additional 3 to 7.5 years for aggravated stalking. He will be eligible for parole after serving at least 18 years.

Hughes was convicted in May after a jury found him guilty on both charges. Eminem testified during the trial, recounting the traumatic August 2024 break-in. Hughes had already been arrested once before for breaking into the rapper’s home back in 2020, where he reportedly told Eminem he intended to kill him.

Hughes has remained in custody since his August 2024 arrest and failed to post his $500,000 bond set in December. As part of his sentencing, he’s been ordered to have no contact with Eminem.

Back when Hughes was first arrested, he took a plea deal and was handed five years of probation. However, he later violated that probation due to a simple assault charge, leading to another arrest. He was eventually released on parole in May 2024.

Hughes also had a prior run-in with the law in June 2019, when he was found sleeping inside the guest house of a property that Eminem had previously owned.
