R. Kelly is once again pleading for his release from prison, claiming his life is in danger behind bars.
According to TMZ, the R&B singer recently broke down in tears during a call with his legal team, expressing fear for his life. His attorneys allege that a staff member at the North Carolina prison’s solitary confinement unit gave him a potentially lethal dose of medication. The incident landed Kelly in a local hospital for two days before he was returned to the facility.
Adding to the concern, Kelly was reportedly denied a medical procedure to treat blood clots. “Whether you like R. Kelly or not, what’s right is right and what’s wrong is wrong—he’s a human being who needs medical attention immediately,” attorney Nicole Becker told TMZ.
Becker said Kelly remains in the prison’s Special Housing Unit and is growing more distressed about his health and safety. “He’s emotional, and he cried intermittently on the phone call,” she shared. “Again, out of fear for his life.”
Earlier this month, Kelly’s team reached out to former President Donald Trump, claiming the 58-year-old was being threatened by federal officials with help from a white supremacist inmate.
Attorney Beau Brindley added that Kelly is still not receiving his prescribed blood thinners and is being denied treatment for his blood clots altogether, despite the hospital diagnosis. “He’s suffering,” Brindley said.
Kelly is currently serving a 30-year sentence for sex crimes and racketeering.
