In the latest development in the custody battle between DDG and Halle Bailey, Bailey has asked for court approval to have their son, Halo, with her in Italy, where she currently holds temporary sole custody.
DDG, whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., filed a request in a Los Angeles court on Tuesday, June 24, seeking visitation rights to see 18-month-old Halo. Bailey had previously been awarded temporary sole custody after accusing the rapper of abuse.
Bailey is in Rome for two months filming a movie. According to Billboard, DDG’s attorney, Larry Bakman, asked Judge Latrice A.G. Byrdsong to allow DDG to visit Halo in Italy under the supervision of his mother, Halo’s grandmother. However, Bailey’s lawyer, Jeremy Lane, objected, arguing that DDG’s mother has a pattern of enabling his abusive behavior. The judge agreed with Lane and ruled that any visitation must be supervised by a professional monitor instead.
The judge called the overseas visitation request “reasonable,” with the added condition that DDG is not allowed to post their son on social media during the visit.
Both legal teams are currently searching for a qualified professional monitor ahead of a follow-up court hearing scheduled for Thursday, June 26.
This comes after DDG previously filed a motion to block Bailey from taking Halo abroad. In response, Bailey explained that she is contractually obligated to be in Italy for filming from June 7 to August 4, 2025, and said DDG had long been aware of the commitment.
“This is my source of income, on which Halo and I rely to pay all bills,” Bailey stated in court documents, adding that DDG hasn’t provided consistent financial support since Halo’s birth. She also noted that DDG would be unavailable to care for Halo during most of the filming period, and that the child is protected under the court’s Temporary Restraining Order.
Bailey previously filed a police report and sought legal protection after accusing DDG of multiple instances of abuse — some reportedly occurring in front of their son. Under court orders, DDG is also banned from posting or streaming content featuring Halo.
