Atlanta rapper Cash Out and his mother are now facing witness intimidation allegations as his RICO trial continues.
According to WSB-TV, Cash Out—real name John Michael Gibson—allegedly tried to pressure a witness into staying silent, with help from his mother, Linda Smith, also known as “Mama Ca$h,” who’s a co-defendant in the case.
The unnamed woman in question had previously been arrested alongside Gibson during a 2021 prostitution sting. Prosecutors claim she was later targeted and discouraged from cooperating with authorities.
On Monday, June 30, jurors were shown a 2021 interrogation video of Smith, recorded after she was detained at a physical therapy clinic. In the footage, she denied any wrongdoing, saying she was simply there looking for a friend who missed a probation appointment.
Prosecutors also played jail phone calls where Cash Out can allegedly be heard telling Smith to track down the woman. During the interrogation, Smith reportedly responded, “I mean, y’all acting like I done kidnapped her.”
Cash Out is facing a series of serious charges, including sex trafficking and coercing women into prostitution.
Since the trial began, jurors have heard testimony from multiple women who claimed the rapper forced them to engage in sex acts for money—money they say he made them hand over to him.
Earlier this month, a forensic interviewer with expertise in sex trafficking cases took the stand in Fulton County court. According to WSB-TV Atlanta, the expert broke down how interviews with victims are conducted and highlighted how the impact of trafficking can vary significantly depending on the survivor’s age.
