Quinta Brunson on Her Divorce Going Public Without Her Consent: ‘I Didn’t Announce Anything’

Quinta Brunson never gave the go-ahead for her divorce from Kevin Anik to be made public.

In her July cover story with Bustle, the Abbott Elementary star and creator opened up about the news of her split, which hit the press just months ago—but not on her terms.

“I remember seeing people be like, ‘She announced her divorce,’” Brunson said. “I didn’t announce anything.”

Brunson went on to reflect on how people often assume public figures want their every move out in the open.

“People have this idea that people in the public eye want the public to know their every move. None of us do. I promise you,” she said. “No one wants [everyone] to know when you buy a house, when you move, when a major change happens in your personal life. It’s just that that’s public record information.”

When Bustle’s Katie Heaney mentioned seeing a sensationalized article about Brunson buying a house in 2024, the actress didn’t hold back. “I hated all of it,” she said. “I hated all of it.”

Though Brunson and Kevin Anik kept their relationship mostly private during their three-year marriage, they were occasionally seen together at award shows and media events. In 2022, while accepting the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, Brunson publicly thanked Anik, calling him “the most supportive man I’ve ever known.” Anik works in the legal marijuana industry.
