Caitlyn Jenner is facing heartbreak following the tragic loss of her longtime friend and manager, Sophia Hutchins.
Hutchins, 29, died in a fatal ATV crash on the morning of Wednesday, July 2, in Malibu. According to Daily Mail, Sgt. Eduardo Saucedo of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that Hutchins rear-ended a sedan while navigating a sharp curve on Decker Canyon Road, lost control, and plunged over 350 feet into a ravine. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The next morning, Jenner, 75, was seen outside a Starbucks. When approached by reporters, she kept her response brief, saying she was going through “tough times” and adding, “I don’t want to talk.”
Sgt. Eduardo Saucedo told Daily Mail that it “looks like [Hutchins] may have been speeding” at the time of the crash. The collision’s impact sent her ATV off the road and down a steep canyon. Fortunately, the two people inside the Mazda she rear-ended were unharmed, according to TMZ.
Investigators believe Hutchins may have attempted to swerve at the last moment but was going too fast to regain control. A toxicology report is still pending, and the case remains under investigation.
In the aftermath, a local Los Angeles news outlet aired footage from the crash site, noting that the same dangerous stretch of road has been the scene of several other serious accidents.
