Shannon Price, ex-wife of late Diff’rent Strokes star Gary Coleman, is speaking out about the decision to take him off life support.
During an appearance on A&E’s Lie Detector: Truth or Deception, Price was asked if she physically caused the fall that led to Coleman’s death. She answered “No,” but failed the polygraph. Back in May 2010, Coleman fell and suffered an intracranial hemorrhage, leaving him in a coma. Just two days after he was hospitalized, Price authorized doctors to remove him from life support—even though his living will stated he wanted to be kept alive for 15 days after treatment was stopped. He passed away at the age of 42.
In the upcoming episode, according to People, Price defends her decision, saying she “had no choice,” and added, “He had gone into cardiac arrest, and that is ultimately what took his life.”
Price and Coleman were married from 2007 to 2008.
Price says the hospital informed her that Gary Coleman had a “Do Not Resuscitate Order” in place and insists she did everything within her power to keep him alive. She recalled being at the hospital that Thursday when doctors told her they didn’t believe he’d survive through the night.
“Meaning his condition is not going to get any better. I made the right decision,” she said.
