Kanye West Was a ‘Golden Goose’ Before Kim Kardashian Marriage, Says Former ‘Seinfeld’ Writer

Kanye West has been dominating headlines for his inflammatory antisemitic remarks and string of controversies, but according to former Seinfeld writer Larry Charles, the Ye the world sees now isn’t the one he first knew.

In an exclusive chat with The New York Post, Charles recalled a time when Kanye was “sweet, funny, [and] self-aware.” He claims the rapper was taken advantage of by the Hollywood machine—including his ex-wife Kim Kardashian—which he believes played a major role in Ye’s downward spiral.

“He’s a golden goose, and golden gooses in Hollywood are exploited,” Larry Charles told The New York Post. “Nobody steps up to help them and take them out of the limelight for a while, and get them the help they need. Instead, they continue to exploit them because they can make so much money.”

Charles, who once collaborated with Kanye West on a TV project that never took off, recalled a completely different side of the rapper. “He was like a sweet, funny, self-aware guy. He was very loose — this is pre-Kardashians,” he said.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West first started dating in 2011, with their relationship immediately becoming a media spectacle. They made it official in 2012 and tied the knot in an extravagant wedding in Florence, Italy, in 2014.

Kardashian filed for divorce on February 19, 2022, and the split was finalized by November that same year. Despite the highly publicized breakup, sources described the separation as “amicable,” with no issues over legal or joint custody of their four children.

“She trusts him around the kids. He loves them and is seeing a lot of them,” a source close to Kardashian told Page Six at the time. “She leaves the house and he arrives and hangs out with the kids. They have an army of nannies so the transition is easy.”
