Bad Bunny’s 30-day residency is shaping up to be a massive win for Puerto Rico’s economy.
According to CNN, the 31-year-old superstar is projected to generate more than $200 million in economic activity for the island. Discover Puerto Rico, the official tourism board, reports that around 600,000 people are expected to travel to the island specifically for the residency—about double the typical number of visitors during this season.
This projection is based solely on hotel packages reserved through the production company’s deal with Discover Puerto Rico, meaning it doesn’t even include travelers who booked accommodations on their own. Hotel occupancy has surged by 70 percent compared to the same period last year, with most rooms snapped up months in advance after the residency sold out the same day it was announced in January.
Opening night on Friday (July 11) was already star-studded, with LeBron James joining Bad Bunny onstage, dancing and sipping a drink. The residency runs through September 14, and for many U.S. fans, it’s their only chance to see him live for now—especially since his newly announced World Tour doesn’t include any stops on the mainland.
