Watch the Gritty, Atmospheric Video for Clipse and Kendrick Lamar’s “Chains & Whips”

Clipse brings a haunting, atmospheric vision to life in the new music video for their Kendrick Lamar collab, “Chains & Whips.”

Hot off the release of their first album in over 15 years, the duo dropped the visual for the Pharrell Williams-produced track. While Kendrick doesn’t appear on-screen, his voice cuts through loud and clear, with his and Pusha T’s lyrics brought to life through striking, gritty visuals.

Directed by Gabriel Moses, the nearly five-minute video is loaded with powerful imagery—distorted figures, heavy use of the American flag, and a tense police chase that ends with one unlucky man behind bars.

The Clipse brothers grace the July cover of Complex, where they sat down with Pharrell Williams to discuss their long-awaited new album and how they landed Kendrick Lamar for “Chains & Whips.”

“It’s nothing like being able to leave your song with a person and they totally, totally deliver,” Pusha T shared. “He’s one of those people that you can send it and turn your back and know when it comes back, it’s going to be everything that it’s supposed to be.”

On “Chains & Whips,” Kendrick Lamar gives a nod to rap legend Rakim with the line, “Let’s be clear, hip-hop died again / Half of my profits may go to Rakim.” The shoutout didn’t go unnoticed—over the weekend, the “I Ain’t No Joke” icon took to Instagram to salute the 17-time Grammy winner for the mention.
