Pop superstar Taylor Swift has always shared a close bond with her parents, Scott and Andrea Swift.
Scott once spoke about Taylor’s early passion for music, telling his alma mater that she’d been singing since she was little. The family even made the big move to Nashville to support her dreams, with Scott bringing his business, Swift Group at Merrill Lynch, along for the ride, as he shared with the University of Delaware’s UDaily.
So it comes as no surprise that Taylor’s been right by her dad’s side as he recovers from a major health scare.
TMZ revealed that Scott Swift recently underwent major heart surgery.
Taylor’s rep confirmed the news on Wednesday, July 16, stating that her dad “had quintuple bypass surgery over a month ago.” According to the spokesperson, both Andrea and Taylor’s brother, Austin Swift, were by Scott’s side “through the entire surgery and recovery process.”
Thankfully, the outlook is good—TMZ reports that Scott is feeling “just great,” and the condition was detected early, before any heart attack occurred. The life-saving procedure was prompted by a routine check-up, the outlet added.
As explained by Very Well Health, quintuple bypass surgery is a complex operation used to treat five severely blocked arteries that supply blood to the heart. It involves taking blood vessels from another part of the body to bypass the clogged arteries, improving circulation and reducing symptoms like chest pain and shortness of breath—ultimately lowering the risk of heart-related death.
Taylor has always been vocal about her bond with her dad. On her Fearless track “The Best Day,” she sweetly sings, “I have an excellent father; his strength is making me stronger.”
