Snoop Dogg is leveling up his business game once again—this time by stepping into the world of soccer as a co-owner of Welsh club Swansea City AFC.
As reported by AllHipHop, the rap icon has teamed up with Croatian World Cup star Luka Modric to acquire a minority stake in the team.
Snoop, who was also confirmed as an investor, shared his excitement in a statement: “My love of football is well known, but it feels special to me that I make my move into club ownership with Swansea City.”
“The story of the club and the area really struck a chord with me,” Snoop added. “This is a proud, working-class city and club. An underdog that bites back, just like me. I’m proud to be part of Swansea City.”
Swansea’s owners also chimed in with excitement, saying, “To borrow a phrase from Snoop’s back catalogue, this announcement is the next episode for Swansea City as we seek to create new opportunities to boost the club’s reach and profile.”
“Snoop’s colossal global fanbase and audience will certainly help us do that, and he has made clear to us throughout this process just how excited he is at the prospect of joining the club,” they continued. “Snoop has openly shared his love of football and his desire to be involved in the game, and we expect his involvement to support us in putting as competitive a team as possible out on the field.”
Snoop’s involvement could give Swansea a major boost—especially if they follow a similar trajectory to rivals Wrexham FC, which skyrocketed in popularity and performance after being purchased by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in 2020.
To celebrate Snoop’s ownership, the club unveiled a mural of the rap legend in the West Stand of the Swansea stadium. And on Sunday, July 13, Snoop showed off the team’s home jersey on social media, with the club’s owners hinting at his bigger role behind the scenes.
