Tyler, The Creator Says ‘Movement’ Is Essential to Grasping the ‘Spirit’ of DON’T TAP THE GLASS Album

Tyler, The Creator wants people to move again—and he’s making sure of it with his new album, DON’T TAP THE GLASS, which is officially out now.

Following in the footsteps of CHROMAKOPIA, Tyler’s latest release also dropped on a Monday, once again breaking away from the traditional Friday release model that’s dominated the music industry since 2015.

If you’re looking to kick off your week on the right note, Tyler’s got you covered. Known for consistently pushing boundaries and delivering genre-bending music, he’s made it clear that DON’T TAP THE GLASS is all about energy, intention, and movement.

The album, Tyler’s ninth, was released on Monday, July 21. Just like he did with CHROMAKOPIA last October, Tyler is continuing his mission to fight back against what he calls “passive listening” promoted by standard Friday drops—encouraging fans instead to fully engage with the music right from the start of the week.

Looking to grab DON’T TAP THE GLASS on vinyl? Head over to the Golf Wang shop, where fans can level up their listening experience with physical copies of the album. For a limited time, Tyler’s latest project is available not just on vinyl, but also on CD and in three exclusive boxed set editions.

Tyler, The Creator opened up about the essence of DON’T TAP THE GLASS in a heartfelt note shared on X and Instagram Monday, making it clear that his new 10-track album is meant to be felt through movement.

“This album was not made for sitting still,” he wrote. “Any type of movement is recommended to maybe understand the spirit of it.”

Tyler reflected on how the fear of being filmed has stifled self-expression. “I asked some friends why they don’t dance in public and some said because of the fear of being filmed,” he said. “I thought damn, a natural form of expression and a certain connection they have with music is now a ghost. It made me wonder how much of our human spirit got killed because of the fear of being a meme, all for having a good time.”

He also shared details from a recent phone-free listening party: “I just got back from a ‘listening party’ for this album and man was it one of the greatest nites of my life. 300 people. No phones allowed. No cameras, just speakers and a sweatbox.”

“Everyone was dancing, moving, expressing, sweating,” he continued. “It was truly beautiful… It felt like that pent-up energy finally got released and we craved the idea of letting more of it out.”

Tyler emphasized that the album should be played at full volume, adding, “There was a freedom that filled the room… Dancing, driving, running—any type of movement is recommended to maybe understand the spirit of it. Only at full volume.”
