New developments have surfaced in the shocking murders of American Idol music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband, Thomas Deluca, revealing that the suspect allegedly used the couple’s own firearm to kill them.
During a July 21 safety meeting with the Encino Neighborhood Council, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman revealed that 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian fatally shot Kaye and Deluca inside their Encino home on July 10. According to Hochman, the couple had just returned from grocery shopping when they walked in on Boodarian burglarizing their house.
Hochman stated that Boodarian used the victims’ own gun to carry out the murders and then made a 911 call from his cellphone to report the incident. When officers responded to the initial call about a potential burglary, they didn’t find any signs of forced entry and left the scene.
Days later, a worried friend contacted police after being unable to reach the couple. A second welfare check revealed blood at the door, leading officers to discover Kaye and Deluca dead inside the home.
Boodarian’s arrest came quickly once detectives traced the 911 call—he had allegedly used his real name and phone, allowing officers to track the location and take him into custody the day after the bodies were discovered.
Police are still trying to determine if Boodarian had any prior connection to the couple.
Robin Kaye, who began working on American Idol in 2009, was remembered fondly by friends and colleagues in the wake of the tragedy.
Encino Neighborhood Council President Josh Sautter voiced the community’s frustration over the fact that Boodarian was free despite a criminal history that included jail time last year for battery, brandishing a weapon, and making threats.
Boodarian now faces two counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree burglary.
