Cardi B is now facing a lawsuit over the viral mic-throwing moment from her 2023 performance at Drai’s Beachclub in Las Vegas.
According to TMZ, an anonymous woman—listed as Jane Doe—is accusing the rapper of assault and battery. She claims that after Cardi encouraged fans to throw water to help beat the heat, she joined in by tossing her drink, but was shocked when Cardi responded by hurling a microphone at her.
The suit alleges assault, battery, negligence, and other related charges.
In August 2023, Cardi B was cleared of all criminal charges following an investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Interestingly, the initial complaint didn’t come from the person Cardi was believed to be aiming at—but from another individual who claimed they were struck when the microphone bounced off and hit them.
Cardi later spoke on the incident during a September interview with the Breakfast Club.
“It was really, like, a quick reaction,” Cardi said at the time. “And let me tell you motherfuckers, I didn’t wanna address it because I thought [I] was going to jail but I’m not.”
The “Be Careful” rapper explained that the sweltering heat that day prompted her to ask fans to splash her with water—but with boundaries in place.
“It was hotter than a motherfucker,” Cardi said. “There was a part of the show where I told people, you know, ‘splash me.’ But even then, I was like, ‘be careful with the face.’”
According to her, the mic toss happened “four songs after” that moment—when someone flung water and ice straight at her face.
“This bitch threw water and ice on my face so I just automatically reacted,” she recalled. “I didn’t even know I was throwing it in that direction. I just threw the shit like, ‘bitch, you hit me right in my face.’ And when I watched the video, it’s like, nah, you really meant to throw that in my face.”
“I felt very violated,” she added.
