GloRilla is currently out on bond after being arrested in Georgia on drug possession charges. According to authorities, the charges were uncovered during an investigation into a burglary at her property.
TMZ broke the story early Thursday, revealing that the rapper was booked on Tuesday and hit with charges for possession of a controlled substance and possession of over one ounce of marijuana. She was released later that day after posting bond.
A spokesperson for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrest to Complex, stating that GloRilla—real name Gloria Woods—turned herself in on July 22. She was released the same day on a $22,260 bond.
The charges followed a July 20 incident when deputies responded to a burglary in progress at a home owned by GloRilla. She wasn’t there during the break-in.
Authorities said three suspects had entered the property and were attempting to steal items when someone inside the house opened fire. The intruders fled, and no one was hit or injured. Despite deploying patrol units, K-9 teams, and a drone unit, police were unable to locate the suspects.
Following the burglary report, deputies launched an on-site investigation “due to the nature of the incident.” They claimed to have noticed a strong smell resembling illegal narcotics, prompting the Drug Task Force to step in. A search warrant was executed, leading to the discovery of “a significant amount of marijuana” in plain sight inside the master bedroom closet.
Though GloRilla wasn’t home during the break-in, she was later charged with felony possession of marijuana and possession of a Schedule 1 controlled substance, according to the department.
The hunt for the suspects behind the burglary is still ongoing. Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman addressed both sides of the case in a statement, acknowledging GloRilla as a crime victim while standing by the enforcement of the law.
“The homeowner is a victim of a serious crime, and we are committed to bringing the suspects to justice,” Freeman said. “At the same time, we must continue to uphold and enforce the law in all aspects of this case.”
Glo’s legal team, Marissa Goldberg and Drew Findling, issued a statement to TMZ, making it clear their client is “a victim, not a suspect.” They slammed the arrest as “a disturbing window into how warped law enforcement priorities have become,” noting that the people present during the break-in were Glo’s family members.
They added, “When her family members did the right thing and called law enforcement, instead of investigating the violent home invasion and theft at Ms. Woods’ home, they instead sought a search warrant when they spotted what they believed was a small amount of marijuana.”
This comes just months after GloRilla was reportedly arrested in Georgia on suspicion of DUI. Still, she’s been staying active musically—she recently popped up on the Travis Scott-led JACKBOYS 2 project, even dropping a cheeky bar about Matthew McConaughey.
Up next for the Memphis star is the debut Glo Bash in her hometown, set to go down at the FedExForum. The event will feature performances from Sexyy Red, Rob49, and more.
