A super-specific Nicki Minaj challenge has taken over TikTok, and like most trends on the app, it’s quickly spiraling.
So, what’s the Nicki Minaj trend all about?
Over the past week, a clip from the music video for Minaj’s 2013 track with Lil Wayne, “High School,” has gone viral. TikTok users are now trying to mimic the Pinkprint rapper’s now-iconic poolside pose — a deep squat with one leg crossed over the other, all while balancing in sky-high heels.
Naturally, TikTok creators have taken the challenge to wild new levels, nailing the pose while perched on cooking pots, soda cans, dumbbells, jungle gyms, stacks of books, kitchen counters, and just about anything else they can balance on. Even Ciara has joined in on the fun, along with Alec Baldwin’s wife, Hilaria.
So what else has Nicki Minaj been up to?
The viral challenge is happening right as Minaj finds herself in the middle of a new feud with SZA. On July 15, Minaj took to X (formerly Twitter) to call out the TDE singer, igniting a back-and-forth exchange online.
In one of her posts, Minaj shared a lengthy message alongside a screenshot of her striking that iconic poolside pose from the “High School” music video.
“Does Sza think she’s more successful than me?” Minaj wrote before taking aim at SZA in the rest of her post.
Nicki didn’t hold back, also claiming she was originally meant to be featured on Drake’s “Rich Baby Daddy” instead of SZA. She then fired off another jab, writing, “And now that silly goose still out here shaking dat ass for drake every day. After swallowing his balls. Allegedly. Oh Mza give it up.”
It’s still unclear what sparked Minaj’s rant or if there was any history of tension between the two before this exchange.
