Leonardo DiCaprio-Backed Eco Hotel in Israel Receives Green Light for Construction

A luxury eco-hotel project at Herzliya Marina near Tel Aviv, partially owned by Leonardo DiCaprio, has officially received its final approval from the Tel Aviv District Planning and Building Committee.

DiCaprio, 50, owns a 10% stake in the development, while the remaining investment is split between The Harag Group and brothers Ahikam and Lior Cohen.

The partnership for the upscale hotel was first announced in 2018. After being approved for deposit six years later, the project has now been fully cleared to move forward.

While specific details about the hotel remain under wraps, it’s confirmed that the property will feature 365 rooms across 14 floors.

Fans are speaking out after the news of Leonardo DiCaprio’s luxury eco-hotel project at Herzliya Marina, with many accusing the actor of hypocrisy.

“Yikes. Not a great look. Won’t be watching anything of his from now on,” one person wrote on Reddit.

“So the environmental activism was just an act, should’ve known,” another user added, while a third commented, “I just don’t see why people constantly fawn over this dude… he clearly doesn’t care about the environment.”

Someone else sarcastically shared a photo of a trashcan lid, writing, “Dropped your crown, Eco King.”

The backlash comes as the hotel project, which DiCaprio co-owns, moves forward after receiving final approval. It’s not the only property making headlines for the Wolf of Wall Street star—he recently listed his Malibu beachfront home for $23 million, over $10 million more than what he paid for it in 2021.

DiCaprio’s environmental advocacy has long been a cornerstone of his public image. In his 2016 Oscars acceptance speech, he stressed the urgency of climate change:

“Climate change is real, it is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating,” he said at the time, also urging support for leaders who “do not speak for the big polluters or the big corporations, but who speak all of humanity.”

As of now, DiCaprio has not publicly addressed the criticism or the hotel’s approval.
